Self-treatment Tips to Keep You Focused!!!

Here we are it's 2021!!! Woot, woot and I'm staying optimistic about life trending towards normal.  So, in the meantime while we aren't fully living life like we use to this is a great opportunity to self-treat.  And, even more...self-exploration with self-treating can help your hands on treatments further your healing journey.

While I am self-treating I do my best to stick to a few guidelines a.k.a. "tips".  Here are my top 10 tips I encourage you to explore...and if you have any you think should be added to this list comment below or send me a message and tell me about your tips!!!

1) Don't forget to breathe.  Using breath throughout your session can help relax your mind, body, soul and allow for deeper releases to occur.

2) Stay present.  Maybe this it isn't the time to look at your phone or watch T.V.!

3) Use music.  Most songs are 3 to 5 minutes and that is the amount of time you want to hang out to start that fascial release.  Choose a longer song and allow yourself to get deep into your fascia.

4) Listen to your body.  Check in with yourself during your session, feel into yourself and notice where your body wants you to treat next.  Once you know go to that area in your body and treat it.

5) Tools.  Make sure you have tools, small ball/foam roller/etc.,  you want to use.

6) Have a designated space in your home that you can peacefully self-treat.

7) Pick a certain time of day to self-treat and keep that commitment to yourself.  Once you've self-treated enough allowing yourself that space and time in your day will be so easy!

8) Choose a place to start.  Maybe you know exactly where you will start...maybe not.  For me if I'm not sure where to start starting at my sacrum or base of my skull are my go to places with a small ball or foam roller.

9) Don't forget about self-rebounding a.k.a. jiggling.  (If you don't know what this is reach out and ask.)

10) Have fun.  It doesn't always have to be serious!!!

"After my 4th pregnancy, I was experiencing quite a bit of what I thought was lower back pain.  Through working with Valerie I was able to think about the location and communicate where and when the pain really occurred.  While I occasionally experience some discomfort, the severity of my pain has diminished.  I have also been able to take away self-treatment techniques to awaken my neck and back muscles to alleviate some of my posture concerns."
