Feeling Sensation During Your Session
We all know feeling sensation when it comes to discomfort, especially the physical aspect of discomfort. It might feel like pain, something sharp or stabbing or maybe there aren’t words to describe what you feel you just know you feel it.
When in session with me I am always curious what you are noticing, what you are feeling, what you are connecting into, what sensations are coming up for you. To be honest feeling into sensation can be a challenging part of your sessions as I am asking you to be present and notice what is happening inside of your body.
We all have different levels of connectedness with our bodies. If we find we live outside of our body most of the time and struggle to feel and put words to what is going on I always like to go back to what I call “basic feelings.”
If in a session you might consider some of the following questions or I might possibly ask you one of the following:
What do my hands feel like temperature wise?
What does the pressure feel like to you?
What do you notice directly underneath my hands?
*In day-to-day life some sensations to notice and question:
What does the chair/couch/seat your sitting on feel like?
Do you notice your shirt or pants you are wearing, what does it feel like to you?
Place your hands on your leg, what do your hands feel like to you?
You can notice sensation with anything. As you work on this you might notice you start to feel sensations that are subtle. Subtle sensations are where I believe the magic lives and happens of noticing and understanding more about yourself. Remember there is never a wrong answer to what you feel. Remember it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t make sense to someone else, if it makes sense to you that is all that matters!

Prompts:
Check-in with yourself right now. What physical sensations do you notice? Are you reading this on your phone, if so what does it feel like to hold your phone? Are you sitting reading this on your computer, if so what does the chair feel like to you? If your standing what do your feet feel like in your shoes or on the ground? Now pick two or three other things to sense!
Later today or tomorrow morning check back in with yourself. Pause for a moment and ask yourself at least two things you notice in the moment. Maybe it’s something physical or maybe it’s something emotional that comes up. All sensations count.
